Demonstrate a Healthy Way of Relating

In every moment, while in the presence of your child, you are demonstrating a “way of being” in relationships. Raising a child who is anchored, well-mannered, and experiences healthy connection in relationships, means living our own lives from that same place. We have to show our child the way.

Take a moment to reflect on what you demonstrate about relating to others through your own daily interactions with your child.  Give attention to what you are teaching your child through your own words and actions.  From this moment forward, consciously attend to how you can show your child what you would like to SEE everyday in your relationship with each other.

BE the person who speaks only kind words and refrains from using hurtful words…. if this is what you would like to see in your child.

BE the person who apologizes and takes responsibility for your actions…. if this is what you would like to see in your child.

BE the person who listens and is emotionally present during a conversation…. if this is what you would like to see in your child.

BE the person who expresses gratitude, even for little things…. if this is what you would like to see in your child.

Children vs. Cell Phones

Ever wonder what would happen if we related to our children the way we relate to our cell phones?

What if we held our child’s hand as often as we hold our cell phone?

What if we made eye contact with our child as often?

What if we checked in with our child as often?

What if we had multiple conversations with our child throughout the day?

What if we treated our child like life would be a mess without him or her?

hmm… what would happen if?
